Em is firing back against Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon yet again. Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed” video was released not too long ago with Mariah dressed in drag (right) and looking a lot like Eminem, insinuating that he’s the one stalking and obsessing over her (watch it here).  In retaliation, Eminem released a track called “The Warning,” but unlike Mariah’s lyrics and video that may or may not be referring to Eminem, ”The Warning” addresses the diva and her husband directly … and it isn’t pretty.  Let’s just say Eminem doesn’t exactly take the high road.  Listen to it here: 

Even though Mariah and Nick Cannon have both made statements in the press that “Obsessed” has nothing to do with Eminem, it would appear that Em himself didn’t get the message.  This is just the latest beef the rapper has had with a former flame - remember all those lyrics about Christina Aguilera?  Ex-wife Kim Mathers? - although we’re still not sure if Mariah and Eminem ever had a previous relationship.  He insists there was one, while she still denies it.  

It seems like a lot of effort for Mariah to write a song and create a video of an Eminem-look-alike if nothing ever happened between them.  And same for Eminem – why create that “Bagpipes for Baghdad” song that started this whole mess (read the ”Bagpipes for Baghdad” lyrics here) if nothing went on between him and the diva? 

In “The Warning,” Eminem threatens to release evidence of their relationship (”Better shut your lyin mouth if you don’t want Nick findin out.”).  Hmm…  What do you think?  Did they or didn’t they hook up?  Inquiring minds want to know.

In an interview with 101Barz, Eminem explained that his alter ego allows him the artistic freedom he needs to say anything.  However, it also allows him to appear as though he might be losing it and finally crossing the line into insanity. He said:

Many times when I was thinking about how I wanted to come back and what I wanted to do, every time would be the same answer. People wanna see you wild the f*ck out again. They wanna see you lose your mind again.

It’s no secret that Eminem went to rehab to try and get his life back on track.  His days of hard partying, or “wildin out,” were entertaining but took a toll on the rapper’s health.  This brings about the question: does America want it’s artists to stumble in a way that allows us to watch their career fall apart just so we can watch them rise again like the Phoenix,  born anew like Eminem?  It’s an interesting theory.

Like many others, famous people deal with substance abuse and emotional issues; the difference is the world watches and judges their every misstep (Britney Spears being the most obvious example.)  Could it be true?  Do we love to watch a star fall so that we can cheer them on as they make their big comeback?

Eminem makes an interesting point.  He seems much more accomplished now that he’s returned to music with a killer new album, despite his prior battles with pills and alcohol.  Let’s just hope he uses Slim Shady to fill in the darkness so that he doesn’t fall back into his former habits - that’s what alter egos are for.  Do you agree with the rapper?  Do we love to see artists “lose their minds” just for the sake of our entertainment?  Tell us what you think in the comments!

Em recently told RapRadar.com he wanted to pay homage to some of his hometown landmarks, saying:

“Tiger Stadium is being torn down, and the train station is supposed to be demolished too. This video is one of the last times anybody outside of Detroit is going to see them,” Em said. “I wrote ‘Beautiful’ when I was really down, during a difficult time struggling with my addiction. It’s a reminder to keep your head up, and to see who you really are despite what you may be going through. Now that I’ve gotten through the toughest part, I see how the song relates to Detroit, and it feels even more powerful to me.”
