This year Rihanna has proven herself to be more than merely a pop sensation and fashion icon, she’s solidified herself as a survivor of domestic abuse.  The 21-year-old Bajan beauty spoke with Diane Sawyer in an exclusive interview for “Good Morning America,” about what went on between herself and former paramour Chris Brown the night before the Grammy Awards.

Rihanna explained that Brown was her first love saying, ““That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with.  So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened.”  She reunited with Chris after being beaten and bitten, but realized that her example was one that could effect the lives of millions of women suffering as victims of domestic violence.

Rihanna also explained that it was extremely “humiliating” to admit she was a victim herself, but took the opportunity to use herself as an example for others.  “It’s completely normal to go back. It’s not right. I learned the hard way, but again, this is what I want people to know.”  More importantly, Rihanna speaks maturely & sympathetically about what she’s been through, hoping her story makes a difference in someone else’s life.   Check out the interview to hear her speak about the incident and it’s aftermath.
