Even though Kanye West has managed to alienate a lot of people on his road to stardom (and maybe rehab?), Lady Gaga isn’t one of them.  In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, she said the pair are actually friends:

“It just wasn’t the right timing (to go on tour with West). I don’t want to embellish on it too much, because I want to respect Kanye’s privacy. But we just had our own reasons. We’re real friends, real friends can make decisions like that, and we wanted to keep the momentum going in terms of pop music staying innovative with hip-hop and R&B, and we really wanted to do it, and it just wasn’t the right time. But who’s to say what will happen in the future?”

This got us thinking about Kanye West’s hissy-fit history:

October 23^rd marks the 7^th anniversary of Kanye West’s life changing moment when he was involved in the near fatal car crash that almost ended his life, and also inspired his first hit, “Through the Wire:”

In the years since, Kanye has proved to be a prolific artist with a penchant for, how should we say it?….Drama.  More drama than The Hills drama. Maybe it’s because he’s such a talented rapper that the world allows his tantrums – his interruption of American Sweetheart Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech was only the latest in Kanye’s laundry list of bad behavior- to keep things straight, we here at AMP have been kind enough to highlight Kanye’s Hissy Fit History in chronological order:

• 2004 – 32^nd Annual American Music Awards (AMA’s)

Kanye storms out mid-ceremony in protest when he loses Best New Artist to Gretchen “Redneck Woman” Wilson.  Kanye tells reporters, “I felt like I was definitely robbed…”  The rapper also brings up a massive conspiracy against him and vows never to return to the AMA’s again.  So the drama begins….

• 2005 – Hurricane Katrina Telethon

This is probably the most justified of all Kanye’s outbursts, but definitely caught America AND co-presenter Mike Myers when he announced that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” on live television.  After an awkward, “did he just say that?” pause, well, watch for yourself:

• 2006 – MTV European Music Awards

After his “Touch the Sky” clip fails to win, Kanye bum rushes the stage and interrupts Justice and Simian’s acceptance speech by claiming his video deserved to win because it cost a million dollars and “had Pam Anderson in it.”  He later admitted to taking a few sips of the cognac before the stunt – and we wonder why Europeans think Americans are obnoxious…

• 2007 – MTV Video Music Awards

When Kanye was nixed from performing on stage at the 2007 VMA’s and also didn’t win in any of the 5 categories he was nominated, he proceeded to tantrum backstage according to MTV and also according to someone’s cell phone that was recording it…ahh, technology.

• 2008 – Grammy Awards

Finally!  Kanye wins Best Rap Album, it’s his chance to redeem himself, to show everyone that he is a humble and gracious guy, but he just…can’t…do…it.  During his acceptance speech Kanye jabbed fellow nominee Common, “I always tell Common you got time the album out better, you can’t drop them the same year as me, this is my award.”  When the music started playing him off, he refused to leave the stage until he was finished.

• 2009 – MTV Video Music Awards

I think we all know what happened here – Kanye was sippin’ on the Cognac again and thought he was being a good guy by defending Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” Video when it lost out to Taylor Swift – during the teenager’s speech that is.

With all the fallout from this latest move (Kanye canceled his upcoming tour and made several public apologies) we’re hoping Kanye returns a changed man…actually we don’t – his hissies are waaaay too entertaining.  Grab the cognac and keep em coming Kanye….
