In a compelling hour-long piece for VH1’s “Behind the Music” series, Lil Wayne describes his up-hill climb from being a child in a poverty-stricken area of New Orleans to rap superstar.  The show takes an in-depth look at his music career as well as discusses some of his childhood experiences.  Some may be shocked to learn that Lil Wayne lost his virginity, sold and experimented with drugs, and accidentally shot himself by the age of 11; he probably would not have become one of the most recognized names and voices in rap music had he not gone through those hardships though. Now age 27, he reflects on his life up to this point and shares his experiences with viewers, including his reaction to Hurricane Katrina and the destruction it caused to his hometown.  Watch the clip:
