Jai Ho! The Amazing Race in India

Posted by Ande on Mar. 23, 2009 Posted under: Movies & TV

The definitive highlight of last night’s episode of The Amazing Race was watching Phil keep a straight face while a mustached Indian man stuck two flute-like sticks up his nose and produced some sweet, sweet sounds.

The seven remaining teams left the bitter, icy, hell of Siberia and caught a Kacca Airlines flight to Jaipur, India, which to the squealing delight of Victor, is also known as The Pink City. Their first task was to find a special tree in a village. Victor and Tammy took the early lead and upon finding the tree had their taxi driver, Babu, translate a phone message which was left in the very difficult language to understand, English. Along the way to the tree, teams passed impoverished slums. The Redheads, Jaime and Cara, felt sad for the roadside animals who had to find their next meal by digging it out of a trashcan. Meanwhile the Sinister Deaf Kid had a heartfelt cry for the human beings who were competing with the animals for those meals.

All teams made their way to a mundane roadblock where one member from each team had to carry hay and water back and forth for a hungry camel. In the commercial leading up to the task, a camel kicks a dude in the shin causing him to fall down in a hilarious and DVR rewinding-worthy manner. But when the actual kicking incident occurred, it looked extremely painful and brought upon a stunned silence in living rooms across America.

Onto the Detour where teams had the option of dressing up in makeup and costumes and dancing in the streets for money or bicycling enormous barrels of hay around crowded and confusing streets. All teams not in posession of dinosaur brains chose the former. Victor squealed again at getting to play dress up and he and Tammy completed the task with ease and were the first to make it to the pit stop.

Crackle and Pop – aka Team Dinosaur Brain struggled with their task but narrowly beat out the Flight Attendants who had to complete a PETA friendly Speed Bump task of painting an elephant. Next week – Thailand!
